Comfortable Christianity is powerless Christianity. God has not delivered and saved us from the world and the power of the enemy just to have us “make camp” on the wrong side of the river. It is true that the first thing God’s power and love can do for us is to save us by the Blood of Christ, but God didn’t save you to have you sit in a passive place of inactive Christianity. God saved you to make you a soldier in His great end time army! True Christian living is found in an offensive, not defensive, position and purpose.

When God Moses sent out twelve spies to spy out the promised land, He had already given them a command to go over Jordan into the promised land, as well as the assurance of His power and provision to protect them as they went. They camped and became comfortable just a few short miles from their land of promise.

God told the children of Israel to possess the land. “See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers — to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob — to give to them and their descendants after them.” (Deuteronomy 1:8) “Look, the Lord your God has set the land before you; go up and possess it, as the Lord God of your fathers has spoken to you; do not fear or be discouraged.”  (Deuteronomy 1:21)  “Rise, take your journey, and cross over the River Arnon. Look, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess it, and engage him in battle.” (Deuteronomy 2:24)

In fact, over forty times in the book of Deuteronomy alone, God commands the children of Israel to “possess the land.” The Hebrew word “possess” means “to occupy by driving out the previous tenants and possessing in their place; to seize; to expel; to drive out; to ruin.” It was a military word that gave an understanding of battling to possess, fighting to recover.

Believer, it is time for war! God is ready to invade families, cities and nations with His glory and grace, but He needs a believing church that will “possess” the land. It’s time for you to possess your inheritance as a child of God. God has given you, literally, thousands of precious promises that make up your “promised land.” God’s Word is God’s will for you and God’s will for you is to be healed, blessed, prosperous and living in absolute victory! Everything God’s Word declares, God wills for you to possess. But it takes an aggressive, faith-filled, possessing attitude, or else you will never “cross over” into God’s best for you.
