As God was leading the children of Israel through the wilderness, His daily provision for their food was manna. Every morning God would provide this miraculous meal for every man, woman, and child in the entire nation (except the day before the Sabbath when there would be enough manna for two days). The beautiful type of this “daily bread” is the Word of God. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4:
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
The incredible thing about the manna for the children of Israel was that it only had a “shelf life” of just one day. If they tried to make it last for more than one day, it would spoil and be filled with worms.
Religion tries to feed people off of yesterday’s ·manna. It serves up spoiled, rotting bread from another generation. But God doesn’t want or expect you to live off of someone else’s bread or a past generation’s revelation! God wants to have a vital, thriving relationship with you. In this living relationship, He strengthens you, heals you, delivers you, provides for you, and blesses you by giving you His word.
