Jesus had told His disciples to take Him across the sea of Galilee to the other side. They did what He asked them to do. How could anything possibly go wrong? Jesus Himself had commanded them to “go to the other side,” and He was even in the boat. But in spite of being God’s perfect will and Jesus Himself being with them, A GREAT STORM BEGAN TO RAGE AGAINST THEM.
If you are under attack and the threatening storms of life have come against you, don’t panic! God has a word for you that will cam your storm and bring you to the “other side” of your journey. Mark 4:35-39 tells us this story:
On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
When you face the storms of life, don’t fall into the trap of self-pity or worse: feeling that God has abandoned you or is angry with you. Instead, reach down into the bottom of the boat (your inner man, the spirit) and wake up the LIVING WORD OF GOD!
With just one word, Jesus quieted the raging tempest and brought about peace and rest.
