The Church Has Been Non-Prophet for Too Long

A prophet is someone who becomes the voice of God to his generation. The church world is full of good preachers — men and women who are gifted with the art of communication and who study so they can fashion together a message. But what the church needs today is not just more good messages! We need to know and hear the voice of God. We need prophets today!

Any minister in any capacity in any ministry SHOULD STRIVE TO HEAR GOD’S VOICE FOR THOSE HE (OR SHE) IS SENT TO. I’ve had ministers tell me, “Well, all of God’s Word is anointed and God-breathed. No matter where I teach from in God’s Word, and no matter what I decide to teach about, I know that it is all the same and God will anoint it.” This attitude is arrogant and selfish and will never achieve the kind of results that ministering the RIGHT WORD at the RIGHT TIME to the RIGHT PEOPLE will.

In this tremendous house of restoration, God has restored the New Testament office gift of the prophet to the body of Christ. Ephesians 4: 11 reads:

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers…

Jesus gave the gift of the prophet to the New Testament Church. The office gift of the New Testament prophet is significantly different than that of the Old Testament.  We will look at the differences next week.
