All of the five-fold ministries share a common goal in the Church. We read in Ephesians 4:12:
…for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ…
The word “perfecting” is the Greek word “katartismos” which means “to completely furnish; to repair”. This word’s root is “katarizo” which means “to adjust; to fit, frame, mend, prepare; to put “a thing in its appropriate position”. The prophet is assigned and anointed by God to repair, restore, prepare, and put things (or people) in their appropriate position.
The New Testament prophet is a positive, edifying builder of God’s people, preparing and positioning them for their designed purpose in God, and helping release the gifts and graces of the Holy Spirit to all the Body of Christ. Prophets flow in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and they release others as well. They bring the voice of God to individuals, families, churches, cities, and countries.
The modern prophet is filled with a seal to free God’s people from the spirit of this generation and the regional strongholds of Satan.
A real prophet does not run around from little home meetings to home meetings giving private words to people with no one to judge them.
A real prophet will be recognized by the other five-fold ministries (epically the apostle), and will minister in open, with full inspection of his or her ministry. There is no such thing as private prophecy. Even personal prophecy to individuals is to be done out in the open, to be judged by others in authority. (I put everything on CD or mp3 so anyone anywhere can listen to it and judge it.) Some people have to call themselves a “prophet”.
