The Curse of Mental Torment is Broken, Part 2

By July 5, 2024No Comments

Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53:4-6).

Jesus was wounded for our sins and transgressions; He died for our specific sins. He was bruised for our iniquities, the inward, fleshly desires that cause us to sin. Jesus forgives any and all sin, and He creates a new nature for us, one we receive once we are born again. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Cor. 5:14). God loves to make the dead alive again. He resurrects us from the death grip of sin when we come to Christ and become new. It’s not simply better, not gently used, but totally new.

Reflect.
Spend time and re-read 2 Cor. 5:14. Read it quietly, pausing afterward to let the words go around your mind. Then, read them out loud. Finally, with paper and pen, read the verse and make notes about what comes to mind.

Prayer.
Then, spend time in prayer, and take the thoughts from 2 Cor. 5:14 to Jesus, asking Him to reveal more of what you need to know about them.
