Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. (Revelation 12:10-11)

In the Hebrew/Rabbinic tradition, complaints and accusations brought against someone regarding moral or spiritual issues were done in a public setting. The accuser would bring the accused into a public arena, cite the Biblical or Rabbinic law they had violated, and condemn the person before everyone. Here in Revelation 12, Satan is shown to be the accuser of Christian brethren. He hauls us into public places and accuses us of violating laws of God. Before we came to Christ, he had the grounds to do so. There was no remedy or solution to our sins before Jesus died for us.

The moment that Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, and His blood ran down the wood, we were set free from the accuser of the brethren’s rightful claims on our lives. Jesus paid the price for us, breaking the laws of God. The moment Jesus died for our sins, the accuser of the brethren was cast down from his place of power. He was defeated. It’s time we enforced that defeat here and now.
