As Joshua looked towards Jericho, he was startled to see another soldier standing before the city with his sword drawn in his hand. He was also looking at the City of Jericho because God had sent him there to help Joshua take the city.

God has sent a warring angel to every city of the world to help the church there take their city. This angel is a captain of a host of angels. He has been sent there by God. “And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?’” (Joshua 5:13)

In these last days, there is going to be a tremendous increase in angelic activity in the world. Angels are instruments of God’s will. In Hebrews 1:14, the Bible tells us they are to serve believers: “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” Angels are assigned to protect and deliver God’s people. “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.” (Psalm 34:7) And “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91:11, 12)

Angels respond exclusively to God’s Word. When we are acting on and obeying and believing God’s Word, then we may have angelic help. Psalm 103:20 tells us: “Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word.”

When we find God’s divine purpose, we also tap into His power and provision to accomplish His purpose. It is God’s purpose to win your city. When His divine purpose becomes our purpose, we see His unlimited power and purpose flow into our lives.

Exodus 23:20-23 tells us more about the angel of our city: “‘Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. Beware of Him and obey His voice; do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions; for My name is in Him. But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. For My Angel will go before you and bring you into the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites and the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off.’”

I believe we can boldly and confidently send out angels to accomplish God’s will. They respond to God’s Word and will. It is God’s will to take your city. Every week during our prayer time, we send out angels to bring in the harvest of souls. We also pray for angels to bring in God’s provision for our church and our ministries.

I believe that when we go to heaven (either when Jesus comes back or when we die), you will meet the angel assigned to help you take our city. Many ministers and churches will look and see this gigantic warrior and his army that was assigned to work for them, and they will suddenly realize that they could have taken their city. I can picture this warrior of God walking up to a pastor and saying, “I am a warrior for God. I was assigned the city you lived and pastored in for years. I waited for you to assign me to work. Why didn’t you release me to accomplish God’s will?”
