I think we can all agree that we live in very dark times, but are they the darkest times ever? That’s debatable, but we all can perceive that things are getting worse, not better. However you phrase it, darkness, evil or sin is spreading and man in his natural state can’t stop it. When things are the darkest, people need the light the most. During a time of rampant pornography and lust, of out of control greed, of hate-filled language and actions, of school shootings and of the cancerous spread of recreational drug usage, I think we can all say that we need the Light.
Jesus revealed Himself as the Light of the World in the middle of a woman’s darkest hour, when she was caught in a sin that at the time warranted death in response. During her worst time, Jesus uncovered the fact that He is the light that can fix this kind of darkness. He is the light that can solve her sin issues. Jesus exposes the Grace of God to a broken person. Her life was teetering on the edge; she was about to die. The woman was clouded with darkness, publicly shamed and internally condemned. Her body, mind and soul were shrouded in black. However, Christ broke the darkness off her with love, Grace and forgiveness. His forgiveness broke the curse of sin off her life.
Moreover, it will break the curse of sin off our lives as well. No matter what we have done, if we have asked Christ to forgive us, that sin and condemnation will be removed from us. The devil is a liar and cannot keep us or anyone bound.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)
