The need for a new priest

But why? Why did we need a new priest? In the old system, the system that God established in the Old Testament, the only way to God was through the priesthood. People would bring offerings, prayers and sacrifices to the priests, and the priests would bring them to God. But now we have a different priest and an open door to the Father. We can go right to the Father because of Jesus. You don’t need to go through a pastor to get to the Father. We all have access to the Father because of Jesus. Anybody can reach the Father because of Jesus.

Evangelical Christianity teaches that we are saved by grace. Only through grace are we saved by faith and the faith is a gift of God. But we a tendency, the moment we get saved, to add the law to our lives. Everyday is a sabbath day. Every day is a Passover. Every day is the day of atonement. Nothing was ever perfected through the law. The law doesn’t give us another way to God. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

There is no other religion known that says that we can come to the god and father of that religion and have a personal relationship with him. Christianity is the only one. And that is all due to the fact that the new priest, Jesus Christ, made the way open for us.
