In this first chapter of Hebrews, the author lays out the case of how the revelation of God, who is and what He is doing, came into human history. The Jewish people understood it when the author brought up that revelation came in this descending manner: angels (the book of Genesis), Moses (book of Exodus and the books of the Pentateuch), the priesthood, judges and then prophets. Those five stair steps were familiar to the Jewish people. That was the way God revealed himself to the Jewish people. All of that was wonderful.
It was incomplete however. God had a better way for this revelation to come to them. He sent it wrapped in the person of Jesus Christ.
Today, there are lots of ways presented to us as means to getting to God. Meditation, exercise, nature, material sacrifice, rigorous mental disciplines and so on are man’s ways of finding God or a god. But Jesus Christ is the only way, the only truth and the only life for mankind.
