Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life
(Proverbs 4:23).
Life is hard. We’re not born into a comfortable world. Our culture is bitter and mean and cranky. We can adopt the cultures attitudes and ways if we are not careful. But all the parents reading this know that people don’t start out that way. As children, we are loving, caring and gentle. But things change when we face rejection and pain. Our hearts change as well. If we don’t guard ourselves, we will be bitter and cruel too.
David should have been the meanest person alive. No one loved him, but he took care of his heart. He guarded it and worshipped God. In God’s presence, the worship healed him. We can live the same type of life that David did and find the same healing that David did by worshipping God and pouring our pain on Him, instead of letting it harden and twist our hearts into the wrong shape.
Respond.
Holy Spirit, I come to You with my _ heart. I ask for You help in ordering my emotions today and living for Your kingdom. Amen.
Reflect.
God is preparing you to take on Goliath. The condition of your heart is vital to the fight ahead. What state is your heart in today? Bitter? Fearful? Anxious?
