HEARING HIS VOICE
The question (as with all of his illustrations) was His disciples and those around Him be able to hear and understand what He was saying. Jesus could see His journey in this life was nearing the end. He was heading for the cross and, in John chapter ten, He told them—even the Pharisees—that He was going to give His life for them. To get His point, they would have to be able to hear His voice. This didn’t mean to merely listen to His voice, it meant to hear His voice and grasp what He was saying. In the opening verses, we see this fact: those who are His sheep will hear His voice. Hearing His voice is a fact for Christians. One of The Holy Spirit’s beautiful functions in our lives includes helping us hear and recognize the voice of the Good Shepherd. We all can follow His voice; it is given to us when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
