The glue holding it all together

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Through the person of the Godhead—the Son, Jesus—he said, “Let there be light.” There was so much power in the words, that we have a seemingly unending universe. If we were to travel at the speed of light to try to reach the furthest expanses of the universe that we see it would take hundreds of billions of years at the speed of light.

But what holds this world together? This is something that scientists are trying to figure out now because there is still mystery as to why things don’t just fall apart. Why are things so held together? Why do things maintain their order?

This world is held together by his word. If Jesus said, “Well, I’ve had enough,” the whole thing would collapse. If he decides to retract all that he said, all that we know would vanish. The Bible speaks of a time when he will do this and he will create a new heaven and a new earth. There will be a recreation of an unpolluted, uncontaminated creation. When we start wondering what is holding us together, we must remember that he is keeping us glued together. He is upholding us. His power is great. Through his word he keeps it all together.
