When God told Israel to take the promised land, the task was possible because the word of God is living. The Bible is a living book. It’s not just nice pastoral counsel. It’s a living book. It’s the word of God. When you receive a promise from God’s word, it brings life, it awakens your faith and gives you permission to go for it. Whatever giants, walled cities, armies, storms or trials are in your way, none of those things can stand up to God’s word.

Jeremiah says that there are times when we must return to the basics: “Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls.’” (Jeremiah 6:16) One of the “old paths…the good way…” is the Bible. Read the word. Feed on it. Arm yourself with it. It is a two edged sword. It helps you figure out what you are supposed to do when you need wisdom. It divides your soul (pusche) from your spirit (pneuma). We are spirit, soul and body. We have a spirit, a soul and live in a body. One of the hardest things to know is when is God speaking or your emotions speaking to you? When you his word into you, it separates your thoughts from his thoughts, your emotions from his emotions. It helps you discern the thoughts and intents of his heart. Devour the Bible for a week and watch clarity come. “Then you will find rest for your souls.”
